14.00 – 17.00 – parallel session II Workshop Mobile Web and Mobile Apps – Synergies and Strategies Moderator Ajit Jaokar, London, UK Produced by Futuretext and iCE Amsterdam Mobile First, Web Second – sounds like a provocative statement, but one of the best known Venture Capitalists in the world, Fred Wilson (who has investments in Twitter, FourSquare and Zynga), blogged about this vision. Even a few years ago, that vision would be silly, but the iPhone, Android and other platforms have changed the landscape forever. We are all accessing the web from our mobile devices. Businesses and enterprises need to adapt to that vision else they risk being out of touch with society However, with a proliferation of new platforms and devices, the mobile ecosystem appears increasingly more fragmented. This workshop will provide practical insights on strategies which can be adopted to profit from Mobile Web and Mobile apps

10.40 – 11.00 Market Your App Through Social Media Marketing your app is usually a second thought to most developers and designers, but it takes a community of people to market an app using social media. As a co-creator of Twitter, and author of the upcoming book “140 Characters: A Style Guide for the Short Form“, Dom Sagolla will describe a unique approach to marketing software. Dom Sagolla, founder and CEO of DollarApp Dom Sagolla helped create Twitter in 2006, and shipped his first book, 140 CHARACTERS: Style Guide for Short Form, in October of 2009. We don't need Hemingway to show us (though he did) the incredible impact that well-written short sentences can have. In the digital age, it has become increasingly important - crucial, even - to harness the power of the short form (evidenced by Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, MySpace, etc.). Dominic Sagolla's 140 CHARACTERS: Style Guide for Short Form aims to do for the short form what Strunk & White’s The Elements of Style did for good writing on paper; via lessons in grammar and composition, but also discussing the importance of simplicity, honesty, and humor. Dominic, a graduate of Swarthmore and Harvard, worked as a developmental engineer at Odeo when it became Twitter in 2006, and was involved in its initial stages of development. He is an engineer with AdobeAir, the founder of DollarApp, an iPhone application development company, and was responsible for the official Obama '08 iPhone Application. 140 CHARACTERS includes a foreword by Jack Dorsey, the engineer who conceived of Twitter, and current Chairman of Twitter. The book was released simultaneously as an interactive iPhone application (with full text) from DollarApp and in print & e-book form by John Wiley & Sons.
